Your Tour at Quivey's Grove
Madison and the surrounding area has much to offer. The University of Wisconsin offers guided tours of the Elvehjem Art Museum, Arboretum, and Babcock Hall for ice cream. In the city, visit the Governor’s Mansion, Madison Art Center, State Historical Museum, Olbrich Botanical Center, State Capitol, or the Frank Lloyd Wright Convention Center. Madison lies between tourist destinations such as the House on the Rock and Taliesen in Spring Green, Wisconsin Dells, New Glarus, Mineral Point, Cambridge, and Milwaukee. It also is a convenient stop on the way to the Northern Pine Forests and Lake country.
Quivey’s Grove is a lovely four acre country estate just outside Madison and two miles south of the Beltline. The fieldstone mansion and stable were built in 1855 , and are now on the National Register of Historic Places. The six dining rooms are decorated with antique quilts, cupboards political lithographs, “Penny Dreadful” Valentines, and chandeliers. From the original random width hemlock floors up to the 14 foot ceilings, these charming dining rooms seat groups from 20 to 120.
The house is connected by a 60 foot long tunnel to the Stable Grill, which was once an actual horse stable. Here you can get a refreshing cocktail or beverage. Everything about Quivey’s Grove, the homemade food, friendly service, and beautiful surroundings will leave you with the feeling you stepped back in time.
Whenever possible, we begin with a stop in the Stable Grill with complimentary hot cider or lemonade, and an informal history of the buildings. History sheets giving details of the furnishings and antiques are distributed as souvenirs. We then proceed underground through our tunnel past the wine cellar, connecting to the Stone House, where we usually serve groups. We are known for the high quality of our food and the graciousness of our service. After your meal, guests are then free to wander through the old Stone House to look at the vast array of period antiques and quilts. You can be back on the road in an hour if you wish, with a very satisfied and appreciative group.
